Overview
This account offers our members a safe way to secure their finances for a select period of time with a set interest rate, returning high profits.
Features
Guaranteed Investment Certificates (GICS) is a secure investment that guarantees 100% of the original amount you invested along with interest earned with your investment on the agreed terms. Your interest is earned at a fixed rate at Sharons Credit Union and your profits are guaranteed as long as term agreements are satisfied.
There are two GIC types – Redeemable GICs and Non-Redeemable GICs. The option of redeeming or cashing your GIC prior to maturity is dependent on which GIC type is chosen at account opening. Non-Redeemable GICs offer a competitive guaranteed interest rate.
Interest
Interest earned is calculated upon maturity. In the case of Non-Redeemable GICs, interest earned on your investment is not guaranteed if funds are withdrawn before the maturity date.
Withdrawing Funds
Redeemable GIC – You can cash them early, before the maturity date*
Non-Redeemable GIC – You cannot cash them early before the maturity date. Interest earned on your investment is not guaranteed if funds are withdrawn before the maturity date.
Interest is paid upon maturity. Upon maturity, the agreed interest rate is terminated.
*Any applicable penalties are at the member’s expense.
Deposit Security
At Sharons Credit Union, depositors are 100% protected by the Credit Union Deposit Insurance Corporation of British Columbia.
